Here at MSMD, we always have room for important things such as volunteering and giving back to those who once gave to us. We are a community oriented group here at GSU and we would love to continue helping others where and when we can in addition to our studies.
Here, we provide a list of volunteering opportunities that would be regularly updated as we gain new opportunities to do so.
Shifa Clinic: Duluth, GA
Shifa Clinic Duluth is a project of ICNA Relief USA, a non-profit organization, providing free health care services to the uninsured and under-insured residents of Georgia.
Our mission is to provide free health care to underprivileged populations that do not have health insurance. With the power of dedicated volunteers, we can carry out our mission.
American Heart Association
Before the American Heart Association existed, people with heart disease were thought to be doomed to complete bed rest — or destined to imminent death.
But a handful of pioneering physicians and social workers believed it didn’t have to be that way. They conducted studies to learn more about heart disease, America’s No. 1 killer.
Here at GSU we volunteer with the AHA to help spread the word and learn life saving skills to not only help others but protect ourselves as well.

Emory University Hospital - Winship Institute
At Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, your positive involvement and genuine concern can work wonders for our patients. Volunteer opportunities at Winship are entirely patient-focused.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has fought to help make sure all children have access to the specialized care they need since 1915. Our volunteer program was organized in 1957 as a volunteer service to Piedmont Hospital. Our volunteers serve in many vital areas of the Hospital, and such service requires a deep sense of commitment and responsibility.

Wellstar Health System
Volunteering at Wellstar Regional Medical Center is a commitment that not only helps others but is personally rewarding as well. On average, over 400 individuals volunteer at Wellstar, donating more than 50,000 hours of service each year. Our volunteers range from high school students to adults in their 90s.

A.G Rhoades Senior Care
By volunteering with A.G. Rhodes, you’ll have the opportunity to give back to your community and the seniors who’ve contributed so much to our lives. Whether it’s visiting one-on-one with residents or participating in group activities, you’ll find that we offer many volunteer opportunities that will make a lasting difference in your life and in the lives of those we serve.
U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs - Atlanta
Volunteer opportunities are available for adults or students (14+ years old) as individuals or groups. Our volunteers can work with patients or "behind the scenes" to help the VA run smoothly.
Our Regular Schedule (RS) volunteers are committed to volunteering at least four (4) hours per week for a minimum of six (6) months. All RS volunteers are required to complete new volunteers training, volunteer application, background check, finger-printing, and QuantiFERON (Tuberculosis) test.
Our Occasional Volunteers often volunteer for special events, occasions, or on an as needed basis. Our Occasional volunteers are required to complete new volunteers training and a volunteer application.

Clarkston Mosaic Health Center
Mosaic Health Center is the premier primary and preventative health care provider for uninsured individuals in our community. Generous donors and modest patient fees support our mission to provide the high-quality health care that every human deserves. We rely on a team of expert and dedicated volunteers who are aligned in our values of access and equity in health care to remain the only full-time clinic in the area where 100% of its patients are uninsured. With over 106,000 people in DeKalb County alone lacking insurance, CCHC fills an important need by making health care accessible and affordable to all.
Mercy Atlanta
Since 1985, Mercy Care has provided exceptional healthcare to Atlanta’s most vulnerable patients. As a licensed provider, you can help us continue the mission established by the Sisters of Mercy back in 1827 of bringing healthcare where it’s most needed.

Northside Hospital
It allows you to get involved in the community, experience health care from the inside, try a new vocation and learn new skills, develop new friendships and SO MUCH more.
Northside Hospital Auxiliary volunteers add a special caring touch as they interact with patients and families in departments throughout Northside’s three hospitals. Volunteer activities include, but are not limited to:

St. Mary's Trinity Health Home
Hospice volunteering is a deeply meaningful way to make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by terminal illness. By volunteering your time and compassion, you provide valuable support and companionship as well as creating meaningful connections. Your presence helps alleviate feelings of isolation and fear that often accompany the end-of-life journey.
Volunteering teaches essential skills such as active listening, empathy, and effective communication. Your presence and kindness can make a lasting difference to those facing life's most challenging moments.
Athens Heart Center
The Athens Heart Center & Specialty Clinics Student Volunteer Program provides pre-health and pre-med students with hands-on clinical exposure, including measuring patient vitals and assisting with advanced diagnostics. Volunteers commit to regular four-hour weekly shifts, with placements filled through returning volunteer priority and a first-come, first-served basis.

Compassus Hospice
Volunteering with Compassus is a rewarding way to enhance the lives of hospice patients and their families. You’ll find companionship with fellow volunteers and joy in serving others. Hospice volunteers are part of a very special team of people who serve patients receiving end-of-life care and their families, working together to preserve dignity and quality of life.
Mercy Health Center
Patient Support Volunteers are an important part of accomplishing the mission of Mercy Health Center.
Below are our current roles for patient support:

With each of these roles, our patients are served with compassionate and quality care with a personal touch. We treasure every volunteer we get to work alongside.
Our clinic hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm, and Fridays, 8:15 - 3:00.
Mercy offers care to our patients in their first language whenever possible. Our medical interpreters play a vital role in ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and understood. We are looking for bilingual individuals who can confidently communicate in medical settings and help bridge the gap between patients and providers. Interpreters must be comfortable discussing health-related topics and will be screened by a Mercy staff representative prior to serving. If you have a heart to serve and the ability to communicate clearly in more than one language, we invite you to apply and be part of this meaningful work.
Opportunities typically occur Monday – Thursday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
There are occasional volunteer opportunities at night and on the weekends.
Volunteers can assist for a few hours with English and literacy classes, work with young children, tutor, walk alongside pregnant refugee women, garden, and help with general program tasks.
Medshare
Volunteers are, and have always been, the heart of MedShare. In fact, many of our regular volunteers have been generously donating their time for 15+ years, knowing that the work they are doing has a direct impact on MedShare's mission to help our charitable healthcare partners provide access to quality healthcare for those who might otherwise go without.
Our volunteers come from every walk of life and as they sort, identify, and package critical medical supplies that will be shipped to underserved communities in the US and around the world, they work together as a team that truly makes a world of difference.

Without the dedication of each and every one of these incredible people, we simply could not do our very necessary work in our community.
Good Samaritan Health Centers
Good Samaritan Health Centers of Gwinnett provides affordable health and dental care, Biblical counseling, and pharmaceutical services to people who don’t have insurance. Our donors graciously cover a portion of the out-of-pocket costs for these services, making them more accessible to people with limited financial means. We are a team of advanced practice providers, students of the medical professions, interpreters, and others using our talents to share God’s love in our community.

Everybody Eats Together ATL
Everybody Eats Together is a coalition of neighbors, farmers, students, and local organizations coordinating food access and community development through farmers’ markets, agricultural education, garden volunteerism, and communal dining. We are on the verge of creating a food system model complete with, a community-owned and operated grocery store hub in Ashview Heights that will include housing, a food-court, and a cooperative workspace program that roots and nourishes all.
Athens Wellness Clinic
