Have you or a loved one been affected by Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is no easy thing to deal with. It affects your mental, physical and emotional health in ways words cannot describe. Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women besides skin cancer (American Cancer Society). It's also primarily found in women who are aged 50+ (Susan G. Komen) but that doesn't mean that it doesn't occur in women much younger than that age group.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization), as of 2022, there has been about 670,000 deaths from this disease alone and roughly half of them occurred within women that posed no specific risks other than sex and age.
Even though breast cancer is primarily found in women, it can also be found in men too. It's a very rare occurrence for men as 1 in 726 men will develop it.
Both men and women who develop breast cancer would see symptoms such as nipple discharge, lumps, and more.
As people who may have known people with breast cancer or survived from it ourselves, we have to continue advocating for more research to be done and to continue to be hopeful for a cure. We have to educate ourselves so that we as future healthcare persons know how to help not only each other, but the community.
Linked are some documentaries to watch and share with friends and family.
